Short verdict: for most UK buyers MyProtein edges it — bigger flavour range, near-constant discount codes, and the value maths we could actually verify. Choose Bulk if you want plainer labels (71g protein per 100g, stated up front) and its specific products. They’re far closer than either brand’s fans admit, and both play the same pricing games.
All prices and specs below were checked on the two brands’ UK product pages on 4 July 2026 — both stores move prices constantly, so treat them as the day’s snapshot and check before you buy.
The two brands, minus the marketing
MyProtein (founded 2004, UK) is the volume player — the biggest range, the loudest discounting, and the flagship Impact Whey that most of its reputation rests on. Bulk (formerly Bulk Powders, UK) built its name on straightforward labelling and ingredient transparency — less theatre, more spec sheet.
Both are legitimate, established UK operations selling the same category of products to the same buyers — which is exactly why the labels and numbers below, not the brand marketing, should make this decision.
Impact Whey vs Pure Whey: the numbers
| Checked 4 July 2026 | MyProtein Impact Whey | Bulk Pure Whey Protein |
|---|---|---|
| Listed price | £30.99 / 1kg | £26.99 lead price (shown against 500g; sizes price dynamically) |
| “Was” price theatre | reduced from £32.99 | reduced from £38.99 |
| Protein per serving | 23g | up to 23g (32g serving) |
| Protein per 100g | not stated on the product page | 71g (stated on label) |
| BCAAs | not stated | 5g per serving |
| Flavours listed (UK) | 30+ | 20+ |
| On-site rating | 4.64/5 (~30k reviews) | 4.5/5 (10,000+ reviews) |
| ≈ Cost per 100g protein | £4.48 at list (£1.03 serving ÷ 23g) | size-dependent — see the note below |
Two things worth saying plainly. First, both brands anchor-price: each showed a chunky “was” figure that, in our years of watching them, is closer to decoration than a sale. Second, Bulk deserves credit for printing 71g protein per 100g right on the product — the single most useful number a whey label can carry, and one MyProtein’s page didn’t state for Impact Whey when we checked.
Pricing reality: never pay list at either
MyProtein’s discount codes fire near-constantly — our deals page tracks them — and Bulk runs frequent promotions of its own. The only comparison that means anything is the price per 100g of protein in your basket on the day. At list, MyProtein’s 1kg tub comes out at £4.48 per 100g of protein; with a typical code it usually lands comfortably under that. Bulk prices each size separately, so run the same maths on the size you’d actually buy: price ÷ servings ÷ 23g of protein per serving.
If you’re comparing across more brands than these two, our best protein powder brands guide runs the same maths wider.
Beyond the whey
Both catalogues go far past protein: creatine, vitamins, snacks, vegan lines. MyProtein’s range is broader and leans on constant new flavours and collaborations; Bulk’s is tighter and more label-led. And if your goal is a deficit rather than a bulk, our protein powders for weight loss guide narrows either catalogue down fast. On the products we’ve used from each, quality has been indistinguishable in practice — this decision is about range, price-on-the-day and taste, not purity anxieties.
Taste: we’ll only rank what we’ve tasted
Our MyProtein flavour rankings come from years of actual tubs — that’s the honest advantage MyProtein has on this site: we know which of its 30+ flavours (now including licensed Mars, Snickers and Bounty) are hits. We haven’t run the same ladder through Bulk’s 20+ range, so we won’t fake a verdict; its 4.5/5 across ten thousand reviews suggests its regulars are happy.
Who should buy which
Buy MyProtein if:
- You’ll use a discount code — that’s where its maths wins
- Flavour variety keeps you consistent (30+, with the licensed bars as the fun picks)
- You want one basket for protein, snacks and everything else — see the full brand review
Buy Bulk if:
- You want the protein-per-100g number on the label, not in a calculator
- The 5g BCAA callout matters to you
- You prefer fewer, plainer products over a constantly rotating catalogue

Final thoughts
On the numbers: MyProtein wins range and value at list; Bulk wins label clarity; both discount hard enough that the brand you prefer using is a perfectly rational tiebreaker. Neither choice is a mistake.

Frequently asked questions
Is MyProtein or Bulk cheaper?
At July-2026 list prices, MyProtein's Impact Whey works out at roughly £4.48 per 100g of protein (£30.99/1kg, 23g per £1.03 serving). Bulk prices each size separately (£26.99 was its 500g lead price when we checked), so run the same maths on the size you'd buy. Both brands discount near-constantly — compare the basket price per 100g of protein on the day, never the 'was' prices.
Are Impact Whey and Pure Whey basically the same product?
They're the same category — flavoured whey concentrate. Bulk states 71g of protein per 100g on Pure Whey's label with 23g per 32g serving and 5g BCAAs; Impact Whey lists 23g per serving. Formulation differences are real but small; flavours, price-on-the-day and brand preference are the sensible deciders.
Which brand tastes better?
We can only score what we've tasted: our MyProtein flavour rankings come from years of tubs, and the range is now 30+ flavours including licensed Mars, Snickers and Bounty options. We haven't run the same taste ladder on Bulk's 20+ range, so we won't pretend to rank it — Bulk's own customer rating is 4.5/5 across 10,000+ reviews.
Is either brand better for weight loss?
Neither brand is a weight-loss product — a calorie deficit does that job — but higher-protein, lower-calorie shakes make the deficit easier to hold. Our guide to protein powders for weight loss covers how to choose.
